Love entertaining in your home? Here’s some tips for designing the perfect bathroom

Are you the type to jump at the chance to host a dinner party, a birthday bash or an epic New Year’s Eve celebration? Maybe you love having relatives and friends stay over in your home so you can enjoy their company for an extended period of time.

If this sounds like you, there’s a good chance you’ve designed your home to be an ‘entertainers’ style home. Perhaps you have a large kitchen island everyone can congregate around, a well stocked bar or a fantastic outdoor dining set.

Something you may have overlooked in your entertainers style home is your bathroom. You want your bathroom to have that ‘wow’ factor, just like the rest of your home. Your bathroom should be designed to impress your guests with both functionality and comfort in mind.

So if you want to add that extra special detail to your space, consider the design of your bathroom/s carefully. Here’s some tips to keep in mind.

Be bold and thoughtful in your design choices

People who are entertainers at heart love things to be bold and thoughtful so they can excite and accommodate their friends and family members. If this is you, your bathroom should reflect this.

Here’s a few design features which are guaranteed to take your bathroom to the next level and really amaze your guests:

  • A contrasting colour scheme. Consider a pair of two toned vessel basins coupled with a funky tile feature.
  • A smart mirror with Bluetooth connectivity and adjustable lighting features.
  • ‘Touchless’ fixtures such as taps and toilets.
  • The latest trend in coloured tapware. Matte black tapware in particular has become a must-have, but other colours like gunmetal, brushed gold and brushed nickel are being seen more and more too.
  • Hidden storage. A deep recessed cabinet hidden behind a vanity mirror with sliding or hinged doors is sure to impress.
  • A whirlpool bath with a wave spout (this is a flat wide spout so the water comes out in a wave/sheet for a bit of understated glam).
  • A shower recess with double shower heads at either end including a hand spray and ceiling head fixture plus temperature control functionality.
  • And if you have the space - a lounge chair or ottoman, some indoor plants and scented candles to make your guests feel right at home.

Add a few touches of home

If you’re one to regularly host people in your home overnight, or for a few days or weeks at a time, you want your guests to feel at home as much as possible.

The bathroom your guests will be using should have everything in it that they would have in their bathroom at their home. This can be easily achieved by adding plenty of fresh high thread count towels, plus a variety of high-end soaps and lotions.

It also doesn’t hurt to have some toiletries such as disposable razors and cotton buds available, even if they don’t end up getting used. All of these little things add up to making your bathroom comfortable for your guests.

Consider outside bathroom access

There’s probably a good chance that you love entertaining your guests outside of your house as well as inside of it - depending on the type and size of your home of course. If this is the case, you should consider having outside bathroom access to make your parties and gatherings all the more enjoyable.

For example, if you have a large patio area which you use regularly to host parties, an outdoor bathroom is a great idea as it will be much more convenient for your guests to use. Plus it encourages them to remain outside where all the fun is, rather than having to constantly go inside then back outside every time they need to use the bathroom. Such a bathroom could be connected to your home near where the action usually is or it could be a completely separate structure.

Another good reason to have an outdoor bathroom is if you have a pool or hot tub. While it may seem like an unnecessary luxury, it definitely makes sense to consider some type of outdoor bathroom, especially if your pool or hot tub sees regular use. Even if it’s just an outdoor freestanding shower with a privacy screen so people can wash off after their swim and then dry off. This prevents them from dripping pool water all over the floor as they won’t have to come back inside to take a shower and change. And don’t forget to install a hook where people can hang their towels!
